Unseasonably cool temperatures prevailed for the East Region Open Water 2024 Championships held at Whittlingham. All ten of the Club’s members, covering over a fifty-year age range, are to be congratulated on their endeavours away from the pool.

In the 1km race Alice Buckingham ,the fastest of the 11-12 year old Girls, claimed the East Region’s bronze medal. In a closely fought contest, Alice’s time of 16 minutes and 14 seconds was only nine seconds slower than the silver medallist and just two seconds ahead of 4^th place. Gina Collinson finished 14^th in the 13–14 years’ age group 1km. In the corresponding Boys’ age groups, Maxim Collinson came 9^th with Jack Canham 6^th.

Over 2km George Saunders claimed third place in the 14 years’ age group whilst Clara Leon finished 17^th in the Girls’ 13 years event.

Over 3km, Dave Wright was victorious in the Men’s 60+ age group, Lauren Calvert was 6^thin the Girls 16 years’ event and Owain Roberts 11^th amongst the 15 year old Boys.

Talia Staines was the fastest in the Ladies 20 – 24 years’ 5km event.
