Matt Wright delivered a masterclass at the 2024 East Region Short Course championships, winning five titles, three of which were in Beds County record times.

Back in  2023 Matt had won three gold medals. Winning the Men’s 50m Butterfly and 100m Backstroke titles on the first day he had followed it up the next day with victory in the 100m freestyle.

This year Matt rose to the challenge of competing in – and retaining – both those butterfly and backstroke events, whilst adding the 50m freestyle title to his repertoire. All in the one Saturday finals’ session. Just for good measure he lowered the County records in both 50m sprints, first in the heats and then again in the finals. Registering ftimes of 24.53 and 22.96 seconds, Matt was particularly delighted to break the 23 second barrier for his freestyle.

Returning to the pool on Sunday, Matt  proceeded to claim the 50m Backstroke title, lowering  the County’s record to 25.61 seconds. He capped the weekend by retaining his 100m Freestyle title.
