Away from the pool, Team Luton’s swimmers excelled themselves at the East Region’s Open Water Championships held in Norwich, with both Zara Fallon and Jo Mitchinson being crowned champions in their respective age groups.
Lexie Sandiford and Owain Roberts both won bronze medals over 1Km in their respective 11-12 year and 13–14 years’ age group events, with Lauren Calvert finishing a valiant 7th in her 13–14 years’ age group. Both girls who beat Lexie were a year older.
Finishing second in the 15 years’ 3Km, Lyla Howard qualified to swim in that race at the National Open Water championships. Zara Fallon was crowned the East Region’s 17-19 years’ champion over the same distance.
Competing over 5Km, Abbie Barnwell claimed the silver medal in the 19 years’ race. Forty-three-year-old Jo Mitchinson won the 40 – 49 years’ age group over the same. In so doing, Jo qualified as the region’s second fastest representative for the 19+ years’ event at the National Championships with Abbie as third fastest.
