Five Medals Won At Second Weekend of East Region Champs

Matt Wright kick-started the medal tally with victories on the first day in the Men’s 17 years & over’s 100m Backstroke and 50m Butterfly finals.

Ollie Fenwick was placed 22nd in the heats of his 15 years’ 50m Breaststroke.

The next day at Norwich was devoted to the 1500m Freestyle events.  Talia Staines claimed the only medal of the day, a  bronze in the 17 years & over event. Alice Buckingham 4th in the combined 11/12 year age group, setting a new Club age group record for that event. In the 13 year girls, Lexie Sandiford finished 6th, as did both Nicole Cashin and George Saunders in their 14 years’ age group. Ollie Fenwick meanwhile was just three seconds outside of the bronze medal position in the 15 years’ age group.

Tommy Fenwick – Silver Medal Winner

On the third day Tommy Fenwick had a busy schedule with four events in the 13 years’ age group. Finishing 8th in the final of his 200m IM Tommy was placed 13th in his 50m Breaststroke and 28th in his 200m Freestyle. His day was topped with a personal best time of 32.17 seconds to clinch the silver medal in his 50m Backstroke final. Subject to ratification, that also broke the Club’s own age group record.

Three of our swimmers also took the plunge in the 200m Freestyle heats. George Saunders was 15th fastest in his 14 years’ age group with both Alice Buckingham and Amy Njawaya in 18th place in their 11/12 years and 14 year age groups.

Lexie Sandiford won the bronze medal in the final of her13 year girls’ 100m Butterfly. She touched in 6th spot in the 50m Backstroke final having been placed 11th in her 200m IM earlier in the day.

Alice Buckingham was our other finalist of the day finishing 7th in her 200m IM.

In their 12 year girls 100m Butterfly Violet Rhodes was placed 11th and Olivia Piaskowska 30th.
