Our Masters were in fine form at the South East Long Course Masters Championships.
Graham Powell claimed six medals, three Eastern Region and five Beds Masters record from his six swims at the English National Masters.
However the ten – strong squad all produced notable performances. Dave Wright was our other medal winner as a total of seven Beds County and twelve Club Masters records were broken. Away from the pool at Inspire, our swimmers excelled themselves at the East Region’s Open Water Championships in Norwich, with both Zara Fallon and Jo Mitchinson being crowned champions in their respective age groups. Details of everyone’s swims can be read here.
The 2022 British Swimming Masters Championships held in Aberdeen saw four Team Luton members crowned individual champions.
Kelly Cooke, Karen MacKenzie, Dave Wright and Graham Powell spearheaded a weekend that saw the squad of eight competitors win 6 Gold, 5 Silver and 3 Bronze medals whilst setting 4 East Region, 15 Beds County and a total of 20 Club Masters records. Read here for a full report
Eleven Senior and five Junior County titles with 32 Gold, 26 Silver and 20 Bronze Individual Age Group medals. After the Covid-pandemic induced break in 2021, the return of the County championships also saw numerous personal best times. These were achieved over a range of strokes and distances not only by our more experienced swimmers but also those having their first taste of competition in a 50m pool against youngsters from all the other Bedfordshire clubs.

Team Luton won one gold, six silver and two bronze medals at the Welsh Open Masters Championships with Kelly Cooke breaking the club’s 45 – 49 years’ 200m Freestyle record as she stormed to victory.
Our Masters won a total of 2 Gold, 6 Silver and 7 Bronze medals whilst setting 5 East Region, 15 Beds County and a further 6 Club Masters records at the Swim England National Masters Championships.

This year’s County Championships saw 56 of our swimmers battle it out against the seven other clubs in the County over 3 separate weekends. All of the swimmers excelled during the competition and together they won 146 individual medals, 19 Senior and Junior Championship trophies and 6 relay trophies. The weekend of 18th /19th January saw our swimmers make a great record- breaking start to 2020.
18 year old Celyn Walmsley reduced her Long Course Ladies 1,500m Freestyle County record at the first gala of the 2020 Beds Championships held at Inspire.
Meanwhile Laura Smith (25), Sam Bradley (26), Jodie Armstrong (38), Kelly Cooke (43) and Malcolm Barton (64) all broke Masters & Seniors records at the South East Long Course Masters down in Crawley.
