Team Luton hosted Gala 2 of the 3rd and final round of the 2015/2016 National Arena League, London at Inspire: Luton Sports Village on 12 December.
In this round Team Luton were competing against Anaconda, Berkhamsted, Brompton, Enfield Swim Squad B, Greenwich Royals, Hitchin and Wandsworth. The Team Luton swimmers put in a magnificent performance recording 10×1st, 6×2nd and 14×3rd place positions.
The team finished in 3rd place on the night and finished 10th overall out of 16 clubs in division one. CLICK HERE for the full report.
Team Luton hosted the 2nd round of the 2015/2016 National Arena League London at Inspire: Luton Sports Village on 14 November.
In this round Team Luton were swimming against Berkhamsted, Brompton, Enfield Swim Squad B, Hemel Hempstead, Hitchin, Potters Bar and Saxon Crown.
After eighteen events Team Luton were placed in 4th position with only 8 points between them and the third placed team. After the next 8 races the gap was narrowed to only 2 points. With every team member swimming enthusiastically, they managed to move into third position after event 34 and stayed in this position to finish the gala in a commendable 3rd place. This closely fought round saw Team Luton swim against Brompton, Wandsworth, Hemel Hempstead, Borough of Harrow, Barking and Dagenham, Berkhamsted and Greenwich Royals. All the Team Luton swimmers raced with great determination resulting in an amazing 24 personal bests out of 34 individual races.
After the first ten relay races Team Luton clocked a joint third position. With every team member swimming purposefully they managed to maintain the third position after the next sixteen races. With 6 races to go the top five were separated by just 4 points. Ultimately the club finished the gala in a commendable 5th place with only 18 points separating 1st and 5th position. TOTAL RAISED SO FAR £5,400
A group of swimmers from Team Luton swimming club undertook a 24-hour continuous swim for charity in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust at Inspire, Luton Sports Village from 7.30pm on Thursday 11 December until 7.30pm the next day. Swimmers of all ages from the club swam in one-hour time slots throughout the 24 hours and were joined by Commonwealth silver-medallist and Team GB swimmer, Joe Roebuck. Also taking part in the event were swimmers from Hatfield, Hitchin and Putteridge swimming clubs, and the Transition Tri triathlon club.
Joe Roebuck took time out from the swimming to deliver an inspirational talk to Team Luton swimmers during their strength and conditioning session, and to sign items and have photographs taken with the swimmers. The final five minutes was swum by event organiser Abby Gee, Joe Roebuck and Will Rodger, applauded on poolside by nearly 200 swimmers, coaches and parents from Team Luton.
The swimmers were raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust because Will, who swam for Team Luton, was treated successfully in one of their specialist units last year. By raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust hopefully more young people will receive the same care and attention as Will.
